Legislative The NIBCA works diligently with government officials at all levels – local, state, and federal – to support government regulations which are needed to ensure safety and protect the consumer, while opposing regulations which are unnecessary, burdensome, and increase the cost of a home. Example: Successfully worked with Panhandle Health District in reviewing and increasing efficiency in the permitting and inspection processes. The NIBCA Government Issues Team serves the Association as an information gathering group from all local agencies of Kootenai County. Representatives of this committee sit in on Council meetings, Planning & Zoning Commission meetings, etc. in order to keep the NIBCA Leadership abreast of decisions or actions that should be taken on behalf of promoting the building industry. The NIBCA works with state legislative representatives to pass legislation to limit fees associated with the cost of housing. The NIBCA Joint Government Issues Committee meets monthly with officials from the local cities, the County, Panhandle Health District, and other business interests to share concerns within the construction industry and work together to find solutions which will benefit the consumers and builders alike.
